Why Schools Need BOLT
The technology landscape in Canadian schools has undergone a rapid transformation. Currently, more than 99% of students in Ontario elementary and secondary schools have access to a computer in school, and this, coupled with increasingly popular BYOD policies means technology will continue to play an increasingly important role in the classroom dynamic. But while new technologies have been used extensively to extend learning to spaces beyond classrooms, and have revolutionized the tools and workspaces used to teach and learn, little innovation has been made which supports using technology for new, dynamic, and more authentic forms of student assessment.
This is the gap BOLT intends to fill. |

"Think about it: Research now gets done on the web. Writing gets done in Word or Pages. Textbooks, once stacked on classroom shelves, are now loaded onto students' Kobos and Kindles. But tests and quizzes? Nope. They're still done with a pencil and paper -- the "old fashioned" way." |
